Quartal arpeggios come from quartal harmony that creates a modern and ambiguous sound. It was the answer to the traditional tertian harmony to move away from defined sounds of the functional harmony that ruled music composition up to the 19th century. Quartal harmony sounded vague and didn’t resolve. It was used by impressionist composers and later Jazz musicians like Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Chick Correa and Herby Hancock. These days quartal harmony and arpeggios are used in Jazz, Fusion and progressive Rock by musicians like Alan Holdsworth and Matteo Mancuso to name two. In this lessen you’ll learn all about quartal arpeggios, that are great for improvising to get a fresh and modern sound. *Chapters:* 0:00 Introduction 01:06 Famous Quartal chords 02:49 Pentatonic quartal chords 06:21 Quartal arpeggios in the major scale 07:29 Dorian Mode quartal arpeggios 07:55 F Lydian mode quartal arpeggios 08:29 Quartal chords in the ii-V-i 10:45 4-voice quartal arpeggios 12:29 Quartal and Quintal Licks 12:59 Matteo Mancuso Lick 15:04 Martin Miller Lick 15:24 Training (overview) 16:32 Final thoughts People and channels referred to in this video: Alan Holdsworth: https://music.youtube.com/channel/UCiyDXNsExWcKTDv_EsBJ_Dw Matteo Mancuso https://www.youtube.com/@MatteoMancusoofficial Rick Beato 2 https://www.youtube.com/@rickbeato2 Martin Miller https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKrWgJg6GU9OwC-5fSqfB1g *Crystal Clear E-BOOKS with audio files:* https://qjamtracks.shopify.com *Tabs and tracks at PATREON:* http://www.patreon.com/Qjamtracks *Social Media/contact: * https:// facebook.com/QJamTracks https:// instagram.com/QJamTracks https:// youtube.com/QJamTracks *Strandberg Guitars* https://strandbergguitars.com *Fractal Audio (FM9)* https://www.fractalaudio.com Neural DSP https://neuraldsp.com/ (c)2024 Rob van Hal, Netherlands *Subjects:* Quartal arpeggios, Quartal chords, Quartal harmony, So What chord, Tristan chord, Quartal arpeggio lick, Quartal lick guitar, improvise with quartal chords, Quartal harmony solo, Quartal harmony II V I, tapping arpeggio, modern guitar licks, Fusion guitar lick, Fusion arpeggio, Jazz guitar improvisation, Jazz guitar solo, Jazz guitar, Modern guitar, Guitar lesson, Guitar tutorial, Music Theory
