"Understanding Genetic Testing Results: Case-Based Illustrations" is the third module in the KDIGO webinar series on implementing genetic testing for CKD in a real-world setting. Moderated by Andrew Mallett, MD (Australia), this webinar features expert insights from Albertien M. van Eerde, MD (The Netherlands), Oliver Gross, MD (Germany), and Matthew Lanktree, MD (Canada).
Through case-based discussions, the experts explore cystic, glomerular, and APOL1-related kidney diseases, highlighting both classic and atypical presentations. They discuss how genetic diagnoses inform prognosis, guide treatment, and impact family planning. Special attention is given to APOL1’s role in African ancestry populations, including its influence on treatment decisions and the risk of misclassifying hypertensive nephrosclerosis or diabetic nephropathy.
