In this video we convert a Canon 350D to monochrome. We disassemble the camera all the way down to the sensor, remove the top layer of the sensor (which includes the color filter array) and discuss auto focus calibration.
We'll remove the top layer of the sensor manually, by scratching it off. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y39UKU7niRE&pp=ygUYbGVzIGxhYiBsYXNlciBtb25vY2hyb21l for a video by @LesLaboratory where they use a laser to remove the top layer. The two infrared photographs I show in the video can be found under https://www.flickr.com/photos/92024986@N00/2818519375 and https://www.rawpixel.com/image/433765/barn-montana.
This video is covered in a blog post that can be found under https://mpr-projects.com/index.php/2024/02/25/mono-conversion-of-a-canon-350d-video/. The post also contains two additional images that show which screws are used to hold the circuit board and the sensor in place.
I still have the (almost) full recordings from when I first disassembled the camera. If I went too fast for you in the video, let me know. If there’s enough interest then I’ll upload the videos that show the entire process (without narration).
