Come along with us as we head out with some neighbors on a gathering!
We started before dawn on Tuesday morning, loaded up our horses and drove about an hour north to the ranch. We saddled our horses and put them back into the trailer to drive a few miles up to he road where we started our search for the herd.
Dewayne rode Peso, a 4 yr old quarter horse colt who is a bit new to working cattle, and he did great! Deanna rode Mouse, a 12 yr old veteran quarter horse. While Dewayne has done this kind of work many many times, Deanna has only pushed cattle a few times so this was a great experience for her.
We all split up and looked for strays and pushed them in with the rest of cows and then pushed them over the hills and to the road. There was a sick mama cow in there that we had to get out and load into a trailer to take back to the ranch so she could be doctored. Then we pushed them all to the ranch and let them rest for the night.
Dewayne and I drove home for the night and then back to the ranch the next morning to help sort all the babies from the mamas.
I hope you enjoy this slideshow and thanks for joining us! 🐴🐄
