Here's a lovely little Documentary about the wonderful Andean Music - Music of the Andes which featured Rumillajta BBC circa 1990. If you are wondering why I missed the beginning of the programme its because I only came across its broadcast by sheer chance in 1990 their was only 4 Terrestrial TV channels in the UK ,and I was probably changing channels when suddenly I see this lovely girl talking about this music which I have been enchanted by as long as I can remember so I grabbed the nearest VHS cassette and shoved it into the VCR and pushed record and I am very glad I did and to my delight 26 years later I find I am not the only one who loves this beautiful little programme.
Rumillajta (Quechua rumi stone, llaqta place (village, town, city, country, nation),[1] pronounced roo-me-yach-ta) is a Bolivian musical quintet that formed in 1980 and became one of the most important progenitors of Andean music. They were the subjects of a short documentary from the BBC and played at festivals on three continents. Their music concerns folk themes and nature as well as more political themes like coca, foreign exploitation and indigenous rights. Rumillajta apparently ceased to exist in 2001 after the release of their last CD, Pachakuti.
