Welcome to Cambodia, my 106th country! 🇰🇭 I am in the lively capital, Phnom Penh. I start my visit at the Independence Monument, which honors Cambodia’s freedom from France in 1953. Here, I share some interesting history about Norodom Sihanouk, the leader who played a key role in gaining independence. He even holds a Guinness World Record for having the most political positions, including King, Head of State, and Prime Minister!
After that, I explore the city center. I carefully avoid motorcycles and tuk-tuks while enjoying the busy and exciting atmosphere of Phnom Penh. I meet local people, talk with tuk-tuk drivers, and take a walk in one of the few peaceful parks in the city, even though it's very hot. The combination of golden pagodas, modern buildings, and lively streets makes for a beautiful sight.
Visiting the Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda 👑
Next, I go to the Royal Palace. This is where Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni lives. I get in without any problems (even though I was worried about my shorts!). I see the amazing golden buildings, well-kept gardens, and the Silver Pagoda, which is known for its silver-tiled floor (though it is covered by carpets). This place is very important to learn about Cambodia’s royal history and Buddhist traditions.
A Sunset Boat Ride on the Mekong River 🌅
As the sun sets, I go to the Mekong River for a sunset boat tour. After getting onto a boat, I enjoy the beautiful views of Phnom Penh’s skyline, the wide Mekong Delta, and the colorful lights of the city reflected on the water. I also try a new drink called soursop juice, which surprises me with its taste similar to apples. Floating down this famous river at sunset is an unforgettable experience!
Exploring Phnom Penh’s Night Market 🌙
No trip to Southeast Asia is complete without visiting a night market, and Phnom Penh’s market is amazing! It is full of street food vendors, clothing shops, and local people enjoying their evening. I try rainbow cheese pancakes, which look strange but taste surprisingly good, and then I sit down to eat vegetarian noodles, which are a spicy and delicious meal.
Phnom Penh has beautiful temples, boat rides on the Mekong River, lively night markets, and many historical places to see. It is a city full of surprises! Would you think about visiting Cambodia? Please share your ideas in the comments below! 👇
