The other day I was scrolling through some videos on YouTube and I came across Raven super dope podcast with her wife Miranda. In the midst of the conversation Raven expressed how at times she feels like she’s not where she’s supposed to be in life. This was appalling to me, not because I don’t think she’s human and has moments (like the rest of us) of self doubt, but because the thought of her not understanding the impact she’s had on the world and not realizing how important she truly is in the industry and maybe even calling it quits because of it, hurt me.
I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be the director, writer,producer,artist,actress and everything else creative that I am if it had not been for Raven! As a child my entire room was decorated in a cheetah theme, I owned every episode of the Cosby show that she was on, every dvd of that’s so Raven, I owned damn near every article of clothing of the thats so Raven collection (sold at Robinson May lol some of y’all too young for that 🤦🏾♀️😂), I bought every cd, new the words front to back even knew the songwriters (side bar Robin Thicke wrote a song called “Set Me Free” for her and you can even hear him in the background vocals check it out 😉). One of my most cherished childhood memories is when I was in elementary school and for my birthday my parents got me and 12 of my friends a stretch limo and drove us up to her concert at the fairgrounds it was sold out! During the show Raven stopped the show, pointed to me shouted me out and wished me happy birthday lol I lifted up my thats so Raven purse and smiled from ear to ear! There’s so many of us that probably have stories like these on how she impacted us all!
I could have made this video an hour easy about all of the things that’s she’s done. I didn’t do it for a shoutout or to go viral I honestly did it because sometimes the people who inspired us need to feel inspired too!
Raven, I truly hope this encourages you to keep creating and being everything that you are! You’re too dope to doubt yourself, you’ve done so much and I can only imagine what you’ll be doing next!
