Earlier this summer I bought a new rod, but up until recently I hadn't really been able to use it. That changed on this trip. Instead of a traditional rod, this rod is very different from anything I've used on the channel before. It's called a tenkara rod, which is a style of fishing that originated several hundred years ago in Japan. Although similar to fly fishing, tenkara rods don't have reels. Instead, they use a fixed line attached to the rod tip. This takes some getting used to. This was one of first really dedicated attempts at fishing with this method, so I wasn't quite sure how it would go. It turns out I didn't need to worry because I caught so many fish and had a lot of fun. Thanks for watching!
