Well! The good people at Schmincke have asked me to design a palette of my very own selection of watercolours, after they got a tip-off from the lovely Ciara in Universal Art Supplies, my favourite art store, near Stephen's Green in Dublin City. The streets leading up to the shop are those lovely wide Georgian avenues you get in that part of Dublin and I always feel like a nineteenth-century lady artist on my way there.
I could use 12 colours or less, and the colours were to come from the Original Colour Chart, from the Horadam Aquarell artists' watercolour range. I came up with twelve colours - it wasn't easy! - and I tried out the palette in a real-life urban sketching situation in a café.
See what you think - did I make a good choice? Would you have chosen differently?
(Part of me thinks I should have included 11 rather than 12, to give you space for one colour of your own choice...)
My Schmincke set will be out late April / early May, so there's something to look forward to at the start of the summer sketching season!
Urban sketching (and of course nature journalling) aremy very raison d'être, and if you would like to refine your skills I would love to help you. I teach two live classes a week on Saturdays and Tuesdays and my students and I are a big sketching family. Check out my website to book a class or for even better value consider becoming a member...at just €19.99 per month it's the best value in dynamic art classes out there.
I look forward to meeting you!
