Kellison drag cars are RARE and always interesting, but this one is WILD! Dr. Randall Zorn, an optometrist from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, had this Kellison built in the 1960's. It has a custom dual rail round tube chassis, with a narrowed Olds rear end, DZ302 engine and clutch-turbo transmission. Although it looks like a funny car, this Kellison never ran nitro methane or a supercharger, so it often ran in the C/Altered class.
The car's current owner, Robert Walker bought the car around 2009. He saw it while working in Murfreesboro and bought it from the dudes who bought it from the Zorn estate. The dudes made a quick buck on the car and Robert took on a new project. He sent the car to Donnie Johnson for some chassis work and updates to make it safe for the drag strip again. He saved what he could, but updated things like brakes, tires, wheels, and safety equipment. He also changed to a regular automatic transmission, and eventually swapped the mechanical fuel injection for a simple intake and carburetor setup.
Robert races the car several times a year at nostalgia drag races in the Southeast. The car runs mid 10's in the quarter mile, but is most often raced in eighth mile. Although it wasn't raced very often during Dr. Zorn's ownership, the car is finally getting the recognition it deserved all these years.
