As Dr. Ruth Goldner explains (see more below) this smoothie can replace ANY meal and nourish your body to the highest level. Due to the combination of ingredients, in many aspects, it is similar to a blended salad, soup, or main dish. On days during which I want to rest my digestive system and still supremely nourish myself, a 64 oz smoothie will replace my meals for the day.
I am not including a recipe for this delicious and nourishing smoothie, other than to say that that I use a formula of 75% vegetables, mainly greens, and 25% fruit. I share what I prefer in the video, although it can be quite variable.
Every morning I have at least 1 1/2 tablespoons of a ground flax seed, chia seed, and hemp hearts mixture that I blend and keep in the freezer. If I’m having oatmeal I will put it in my oatmeal, if not I put it in the smoothie after it’s blended.
I’ve taken the recommendation for this smoothie from Dr. Brooke Goldner who suggests this ratio for her healing smoothies in Goodbye Lupus and Goodbye Autoimmune Disease. She offers recipes in her books and online.
Because I fill the 64 inch carafe of the Vita Mix, this gives me enough smoothie for approximately 12 ounces each, for me and husband, for three days, after which I make a new one. A 24 oz stainless steel carafe is a perfect size in which to store the two days of smoothies. I would not keep the mixture any longer than three days or it degrades too much.
