Continuing on my journey to find the elusive (in New England) and carnivorous Purple Butterwort, I ascend into a lovely sub-alpine and alpine habitat. Though not nearly as dramatic as the cliff faces I explored the day before, we found a very healthy population of our target species! Plants of interest: Sorbus americana - American mountain ash - Rosaceae Abies balsamea - balsam fir - Pinaceae Streptopus lanceolatus - rose twisted-stalk - Liliaceae Oxalis montana - mountain woodsorrel - Oxalidaceae Vaccinium vitis-idaea minus - Mountain Cranberry - Ericaceae Cornus canadensis - Canadian bunchberry - Cornaceae Lycopodium lagopus - arctic stag's-horn clubmoss - Lycopodiaceae Clintonia borealis - bluebead lily - Liliaceae Pinguicula vulgaris - Purple Butterwort - Lentibulariaceae
