A new BMW M3 is coming! And Carwow has exclusive images showing you what it could look like.
It will be inspired by this new "Vision Driving Experience" concept, which BMW has just revealed.
This incredible prototype has 1,300 hp, can accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h in around 1.8 seconds and uses electric fans to produce 1.2 tons of downforce - just like the McMurtry Speirling!
However, the production M3 will differ in some very important ways. For starters, BMW M division boss Frank Van Meel has confirmed that the upcoming M3 G84 will come with the option of electric propulsion OR a straight-six gasoline engine.
In fact, BMW is already working on upgrading the current M3's 3.0-liter twin-turbo S58 engine for future M products. You can bet it will come with major power upgrades, along with a new hybrid system — not the one from the M5, but the micro-hybrid setup from the latest M340i.
That should help keep weight and costs down. But how fast will the next M3 be? Well, the outgoing car is almost as fast as the 680-hp AMG C63, despite having around 150 hp less. So, this new 6-cylinder M3 should be significantly faster than its Mercedes rival.
And the next electric M3? Well, if this Vision Driving Experience is something worth buying, it could be even faster than models like the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire.
BMW hasn't said how much these cars might cost, but it has given a sneak peek of what their interiors look like. And some very striking visual improvements are revealed that have never been seen before on a road car…
