The new and best method for Cordyline propagation ( Cordyline Australis propagation ) Cordyline Australis plants. How to develop a large root ball to guarantee success in propagating cordylines.

We recently found a new method for cordyline propagation which is simply the best method of cordyline propagation that we have used and in this gardening video I show you step by step on how to use this method for cordyline propagation.

Over the years we have found that the more roots you have on your new plant the better success you have with propagation so we show you how to get a large root ball for propagation with this new method.

We have been growing cordyline plants for the last 15 years in France and the UK with our favorite cordyline being cordyline australis which we have propagated so many times with success that we have released videos showing our cordyline propagation techniques.

A Cordyline is a subtropical plant grown all over Europe and the UK and if you want free plants watch this video as I show you our new and best method of propagation of your Cordyline Australis plant (Cordyline )

Cordyline is a wonderful hardy plant that can turn any garden into a tropical oasis - hence why the Cordyline has become so popular in UK gardens.

As a plant, the Cordyline within our garden has survived temperatures down to minus 15 so it can be grown in most of northern Europe without a problem.

Although the Cordyline has a subtropical look they do not do well in tropical climates.

So Cordyline propagation - one of the factors that determines the success of your cordyline propagation is the size of the root ball that you have when you first remove the new cordyline from the existing plant.

When taking a young cordyline plant sprouting up from the base of the existing cordyline if you are lucky the young cordyline will have a root system already in place and there is a good chance that the new cordyline plant will survive when removed from the existing and flourish.

With those base growing cordyline plants, we have a 75% success rate that
the new cordyline australis will grow and flourish.

Those cuttings we take from higher branches of an existing cordyline australis there are no roots at the start and our success rate drops down to 25% as not all cuttings develop a root system.

Now with this new and best method of cordyline propagation, you start off with a large root ball before removing the new cordyline from the existing cordyline so guaranteeing success!

The idea for this new method of cordyline propagation came from the air layering technique of fruit tree propagation that I have used before with success and it worked a treat.

In this cordyline propagation video, I show you how I used an old flowerpot to force start root growth on a young cordyline australis plant before it is removed from the existing cordyline.

Within 5 months the young cordyline australis grew 2 feet in height while still attached to the ' mother' cordyline australis and at the same time developed a large root ball to guarantee success when removed from the existing cordyline and replanted.

This new method of cordyline propagation can also be used on those young cordyline branches growing higher up on the existing cordyline tree.

We currently grow 4 varieties of cordyline plants in our garden, cordyline red sensation, cordyline australis dark star, a variegated cordyline australis and our favourite Cordyline Australis.

Why do we love growing cordyline trees simply because they create a subtropical feel for our garden, the cordyline flowers are scented of Jasmin and in particular cordyline australis are very hardy.

In France and the UK, we have had temperatures down to minus 12 degrees over the winter for some nights and our cordyline australis have survived without any signs of damage.

Cordyline Australis has become very popular in the UK and France because of that hardiness and so many gardens in the UK and France have cordyline australis thriving in as well as public parks.

I hope you enjoyed this video on my new and best method for cordyline propagation showing cordyline australis propagation and how to get a large root ball on your new cordyline plant.
