The Fender Player II Modified HSS Stratocaster is part of a feature-enhanced extension of the Player II Series. The Modified HSS Strat includes two Player II Noiseless single-coil pickups in the neck and middle positions, a humbucker in the bridge, push-pull coil-split circuitry, maple or rosewood fretboard, chamfered tremolo blocks and locking tuners.
“I have a lot of Stratocaster influences—such as Eric Johnson—and I can get down with single-coil pickups,” says Los Angeles guitarist Taylor Gamble, “but I feel humbuckers give me an extra well-rounded tone. Anything with a humbucker on it, and you’ve got me. For high-gain playing, a humbucker in the bridge position is perfect for when I really need certain notes to scream, or to emphasize palm mutes and pinch harmonics. When I play clean, I like dark, mysterious and peculiar sounds—especially when using a delay—and if I need a bit more sheen and sparkle, all I need to do is use the coil-split function. The Fender Player II Modified HSS Strat gives me a lot of variety.”
