The Maextro S800 luxury sedan has officially debuted in China as a domestic competitor to the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. It offers both all-electric and range-extended powertrain options, delivering up to 635 kW. With a body length of 5,480 mm and 32 ADAS sensors, the S800 is packed with advanced technology. Sales in China will begin in May, with prices ranging from $136,000 to $205,000, and it supports 6C fast charging.
Maextro is a joint venture between Huawei and JAC, the former contract manufacturer for Nio. In this partnership, JAC handles chassis development and manufacturing, while Huawei supplies key components and advanced technology. Huawei is also responsible for selling Maextro vehicles through its HIMA stores across China. The Maextro S800, a full-size NEV sedan, marks the brand’s debut model.
The Maextro S800 was officially unveiled on February 20, with a focus on its advanced technologies. It is the first vehicle to feature Huawei’s “Tuling Longxing” digital platform, which utilizes autonomous learning to enhance domain control. The chassis is designed to support various powertrain configurations, including dual-motor, three-motor, and four-motor setups, delivering between 480 and 1,300 hp. Additionally, the versatile chassis can accommodate sedans, SUVs, and minivans with a gross weight ranging from 3 to 3.8 tons.
As Huawei’s flagship entry into the automotive industry, the Maextro S800 is packed with the tech giant’s cutting-edge innovations. It features the Huawei ADS road perception system, Huawei DATS, and Huawei Xmotion body control system. Maextro officials take particular pride in the Huawei ADS, which continuously scans road conditions ahead and automatically adjusts torque distribution as well as front and rear steering for optimal performance.
The Maextro S800 is equipped with an advanced active suspension system that can anticipate and react to road bumps and poor conditions in real time. It also features four-wheel steering, giving this 5.48-meter sedan an impressively tight 5.05-meter turning radius in daily driving. In a special mode, the turning radius shrinks further to just 3.8 meters. Another standout feature is its crab walk mode, which enables the car to move sideways by up to 16 degrees. Maextro previously showcased this capability in a video where the S800 crab-walked between Mercedes-Maybach sedans.
The Maextro S800's perception system includes 32 sensors, featuring four high-resolution 192-line LiDARs. These sensors enhance detection capabilities in rain, fog, and dust by 60%, while also reducing perception delay by 40%. The car’s ADAS can autonomously detect potential collisions and take preemptive safety measures, such as adjusting the body posture, seat position, tightening the seatbelt, raising the windows, and unlocking the central control lock. In the event of a crash, the S800 automatically switches to its redundant power supply and sends rescue information for emergency response.
The Maextro S800’s headlights feature real-time perception, allowing them to follow the driving trajectory for enhanced visibility. Its high beams can also interact with the driver and pedestrians, improving overall safety. Another standout feature is the double-layer air circulation system, which actively purifies bacteria, viruses, and harmful gases, ensuring a cleaner and healthier cabin environment.
The EREV variant of the Maextro S800 features an 800V high-voltage system, enabling ultra-fast 6C charging. This allows the battery to be charged with DC power at six times its capacity. Equipped with a 65 kWh battery, the S800 EREV supports a maximum charging rate of 390 kW, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in just 10.5 minutes.
The Maextro S800 features a two-tone body paint, 20-inch wheels with self-aligning wheel caps, and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. As a full-size luxury sedan, it measures 5,480 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width, and 1,536 mm in height, with an expansive 3,370 mm wheelbase for a spacious and commanding presence.
The Maextro S800 is offered in both Battery Electric Vehicle and Extended-Range Electric Vehicle powertrain configurations. The BEV variant comes exclusively with a tri-motor setup, delivering a combined output of 635 kW or 852 hp. The EREV version features a standard dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 390 kW or 523 hp and is paired with a 1.5-liter range extender. Additionally, a tri-motor EREV variant is available, boasting the same peak power output of 635 kW.
