After sealing the three-match ODI series with a game to spare, New Zealand will be eyeing a series sweep over Sri Lanka. The two teams meet for one final time on this tour and the last game will be played at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday (January 11).
Mitchell Santner has started his reign as New Zealand's permanent white-ball skipper with two series wins. He won the T20I series against Sri Lanka 2-1 and now leads the three-match ODI series 2-0.
In the last match, rain in Hamilton led to a shortened game. The match was reduced to 37 overs per side.
Batting first, New Zealand made 255/9 from their 37 overs. Rachin Ravindra scored a fine half-century. Mark Chapman, too, scored a fifty after New Zealand lost Will Young early in the piece.
Daryl Mitchell scored a run-a-ball 38 while captain Santner smashed 20 off 15 to take New Zealand's total past 250. Maheesh Theekshana bagged a hat-trick and finished with figures of 4/44 from his 8 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga picked up a couple of wickets while Eshan Malinga and Asitha Fernando got one apiece.
In reply, Sri Lanka never really got going. Kamindu Mendis scored a half-century, but lack of support from the other end cost the visitors.
They were eventually bowled out for 142 in 30.2 overs, losing the contest by 113 runs.
William O'Rourke picked up three wickets and was the pick of the bowlers. Jacob Duffy got two while Matt Henry, Nathan Smith and Mitchell Santner got one wicket each. Two batters were run out in a dismal batting display from Sri Lanka.
