NFHR CONSTRUCTION LAUNCH: CONTROVERSY & DELAYS EXPLAINED
The Nagaland Foothill Road construction project has officially begun, despite opposition from the Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) and tribal organizations. The launch event, attended by local MLA Achumbemo Kikon, took place in Khumjo Yan Village, Wokha district, on February 21. The NFHRCC had condemned the launch, citing the lack of a signed agreement with the contractors, M/S Chabou and Company and JK Construction. However, MLA Kikon emphasized that the government has already signed and agreed upon the contract, and there should not be two agreements for the construction work. The project, initiated in 2013, aims to improve connectivity and economic opportunities in the region. MLA Kikon instructed the contractors to complete the work before the monsoon season and called for cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the project's timely completion.
