For all intents and purposes, Nightkin share their origin with Super Mutants, both were created by the Master through the use of FEV at the Mariposa Military Base. The only difference between a Nightkin and Super Mutant, at least in the beginning, was that Nightkin were far more successful in their creation. They were stronger and more intelligent than the other first generation mutants, unmatched by all others in the Masters Army and for that reason they were handpicked to be the Masters Elite Warriors.
