Author Douglas Murray has lauded Donald Trump for ceasing aid to South Africa, claiming the country should not be regarded as a “moral arbiter” or “deserving of aid” following their reported misgovernment.
Mr Murray’s insights follow the US president signing an executive order freezing aid to South Africa after the government introduced laws where land can be seized, reportedly from white farmers, without compensation.
“South Africa is a country of great promise if it was governed well,” he told Sky News host Rita Panahi.
“There’s no reason why a government who literally cannot even keep the lights on in Johannesburg and Cape Town, should be regarded as some kind of moral arbiter or deserving of aid.
“If they want to misgovern themselves, and that’s one thing, but misgoverning themselves with our financial support is something else entirely.”
