As part of their campaign against modern art, the Nazis seized more than one thousand artworks by Emil Nolde - even though Nolde himself was a staunch supporter of the Nazi party and continuously sought to curry favor with the regime. In the aftermath of World War II, he later recast himself as a resistor.
Join student tour guide Paul Tamburro and curator Lynette Roth for a conversation about artist Emil Nolde, his relationship with the Nazi party, and how we can reframe and reinterpret one particularly challenging work in the Harvard Art Museums' collections, Nolde's 1913 painting “Mulatto."
