When World War II began, Sweden faced the enormous challenge of building and modernizing its military supply system from scratch. Through massive investments and rapid adjustments, the war industry was established across the country.
Although it wasn’t new for civilian industries to participate in military equipment production, the process was inefficient. Modernization and standardization were now required to increase efficiency. In the 1940s, Försvarets Fabriksverk was established to review and select suitable and reliable companies for production.
