After 2022, we went on another motorhome trip in Norway in 2024. Having previously explored the south and west, this time we aimed to venture further north.
_"Beyond the Atlantic Road"_ is the title of the film in which we explore the Fv17 (Kystriksveien), the Lofoten Islands, and Andøya. On our way south, we visit the bird island Runde and some of the fjords and mountains that we love.
The route was roughly planned, with attractions selected, but we wanted to adapt the actual route to the weather conditions. As a result, we missed two highlights: the island of Senja with its Segla peak and the hike to the Svartisen Glacier fell victim to the rain. This leaves room for a future visit. 😉 We covered nearly 7,000 kilometers in just over three weeks. You need to decide where to focus. If you want to spend more time in the north—on the Fv17, Lofoten, Vesterålen, and Senja—you should "power through" the journey and not expect to visit Fjord Norway as well. For me, the puffins on Runde were a highlight. An absolute highlight of the trip.
*Route*
The route is a matter of personal preference. Nevertheless, here is a link to our route (Google Maps):

Google may calculate the route differently based on current conditions (winter, road closures, etc.). In the video, you will find occasional "Plus" codes, an alternative coordinate system. You can enter these in Google Maps to learn more about each location.

Prices in the markets are slightly higher than in Germany. Prices for parking or snacks at tourist hotspots can be quite shocking. We did not exchange money and paid everything completely cashless or contactless. The only exception was the parking at Torghatten, where you could also pay in Euros in an envelope.
For tolls and ferries, we set up a free account with ØresundPAY. The transponder (Bizz) arrived by mail after a few days and makes passing tolls and boarding ferries very easy. With few exceptions, you simply drive through or on. In the exceptions, a staff member takes a photo of the license plate. The largest individual tolls were the Storebælt Bridge (about €83) and Øresund Bridge (about €47), for which we had a discount agreement. This is worthwhile for motorhomes from the second crossing onward. The ferries with the highest costs were the crossings to Lofoten (about €93) and to Fehmarn (about €160).
