Going Home documents the first Restoration (from 1981-1982) & Homecoming of Norfolk & Western Class J 611 in August of 1982. 611 (which was leased by the Norfolk Southern Railroad from 1982 - 1994, for usage in the Southern Steam Program) was used extensively from 1982 to 1994 in excursion service for the Southern Steam Program until it's fire was dropped for the final time in 1994 (following the conclusion of the Southern Steam Program.)

This 20 Minute promotional film was put together by Commonwealth Films of Richmond, Virginia in 1983 for NS & was one of 2 promotional films created for NS (documenting the revitalization of N&W 1218 & N&W 611, for usage in the famed Southern Steam Program.) The other being "Steam People", Produced in 1988 for NS (covering the restoration & 1987 Excursion Season of N&W 1218.), which can be seen here:

This film (along with Steam People from 1988) was available for purchase, directly from Commonwealth Films on the VHS, Betamax, Video 8, Umatic & 16MM Film Video Formats.
As of 2023, this film & Steam People have yet to see a remastered edition or a re-release.
