How to wet render tallow
for each 10 pounds of beef fat we add 3 tablespoons of salt and 8 cups of water.
Put it in a crockpot or roaster and let it go a few hours. I like to hit it with an immersion blender to break it down. Let is keep cooking for about 8 hours.
Strain and put in a bowl in the fridge until it hardens.
Remove it from the bowl and dump and water out and clean the bottom of any gel or debris.
Repeat the process again the following day.
On day 3 and 4 leave off the water and salt and so the same method.
On the 4th day add to jars once it is melted. You can go 5-6 times if needed but you will no longer smell the beef smell once melted and this is how you know it is done.
This version is much better for body butters, candles and soap making.
