The 2025 Lexus GX is a new large SUV for the Japanese brand in Australia, but it stands out from the crowd by being a proper four-wheel-drive (4WD) with a luxury twist. In fact, the third-generation model is related to the new Toyota LandCruiser Prado 250 Series, so it's sure to be very capable off the beaten track.
Where the GX really differs to the recently launched Prado is under the bonnet, where it's motivated by a 260kW/650Nm 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 engine, as opposed to a 150kW/500Nm 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder unit. Indeed, with the difference in fuel type, it's a very different proposition on- and off-road.
Speaking of which, in this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Marcus Craft puts the GX550's off-road-focused Overtrail flagship through its paces in a 4WD torture test, to find out if it really does offer high levels of all-round capability and luxury.
