Offensive plays have many advantages but you shouldn't use them in a game if you can't run them in practice effectively. So many players just run new routes in hopes of changing it up but they don't actually know what combinations work best and what the goals are...
1) The goal is to get a 1 on 1 block. They plays overload a side of the court so the middle has to make a hard decision: Leave the middle or leave a pin.
2) Plays should be successfully run 8/10 times in practice if you're going to try them in a game
3) Plays don't need to be complicated and they don't need to be run all the time.
4) If the pass is bad or not ideal, hitters need to AUDIBLE (change the set) by calling a standard set like High or Go. Don't try to force a route if it doesn't make sense based on the pass.
