In September 1911, the Royal Navy cruiser HMS Hawke collided with the RMS Olympic, the nearly brand-new sister ship of the RMS Titanic, off the coast of the Isle of Wight. This dramatic maritime collision tore a massive gash in Olympic’s hull and raised serious questions about the safety and design of the White Star Line’s new Olympic-class liners.

In this video, we explore the full story behind the Hawke-Olympic collision: how it happened, who was at fault, and what it meant for the future of Titanic’s sister ships. We dive into eyewitness accounts, the court case that followed, and the hydrodynamic controversy that blamed the Olympic's enormous displacement for drawing the smaller warship into its side.

This video was made possible thanks to the brilliant folks over at @TitanicHG , especially Jack Gibson the talented animator!

Thanks also to @liamsharpe23 for frakenstein-ing us a fairly convincing HMS Hawke :)
