One of CSX's Largest Yards: Flat-Track Switching in Russell, Kentucky

Hey everyone and thanks for checking out this video. You’ll see the CSX Russell Yard in action. I can't find any sizes of CSX yards, but this is about 4 miles in length. That's similar to it's largest yard in terms of car volume, Rice Yard in Waycross, Georgia. This was a hump yard, but now only utilizes flat-track switching. The Russell facility has upgraded part of the yard to electronic switches which allow for faster sorting of cars. You’ll see plenty of cars being sorted and a look around the yard. We then head to the Progress Rail Facility where locomotives are scrapped. Lastly, we head to the CSX shops in Huntington, West Virginia where we check out the rebuild line and some of the other engines there.
