Welcome again YouTube family and Led Zeppelin fans! In this episode, we put on the jeweler’s loop and really zoom in on the incredible 2nd guitar solo by Jimmy Page on the track, The Ocean! I know this track is one of the most familiar and popular Zeppelin tracks of all time, but I really wanted to show some love for this gorgeous moment in particular!
There’s not enough “O”s in the word smooth for this incredible guitar solo. It’s built over a great rhythm track and is chock full of delicious bends (pitched to perfection), lovely contrasting phrasings, expressive pick rakes, beautifully composed melodic lines, a cameo nod to B.B. King and one very “Swing-a-licious”, triumphant ending!
What seems on the surface to be a tidy, little guitar solo is in fact an epic statement of emotion and technique, all in one!
