OP comes on talk of the town show to discuss his future in the music industry, as well as critique the way a lot of new rappers are navigating the industry. While OP is continuing to make music, and has a song with Chow Lee on the way, he also has his own label where he’s signed artists and producers. He says he plans to continue to focus primarily on producers, as most artists he’s worked with have been a “waste of talent” and lack the perseverance it takes to break through. He says what separates him from other artists is his ability to “wait his turn”, whilst in the meantime making money. He says he would rather have a loyal fan base than a bunch of streams, because buying power is the key to making a living off of music these days. He also says that a lot of the beef between the boroughs cannot be solved just through music, that peace in the streets and peace preached in songs are two totally different things. He urges emerging artists to be patient, and focus on finding their niche, rather than being flashy and chasing fame. Whilst he claims it’s impossible for everyone in the game to like eachother, they should all be focused on being able to work together for the collective goal of making money and staying relevant.
