In this episode we find out more about how & why our parents decided to bring arguably the most world famous fast food giant McDonalds to the city of Apia, Samoa. From what started as a just a spontaneous thought to becoming a reality. 30 years later since the opening in 1995 we get to ask questions and process the magnitude of this accomplishment.
We stop by at the metro in the outskirts of town to try some home made goods & coffee where we try to speak a bit of samoan to the workers lol. Shortly after we take a drive on the back roads of Apia stopping by some pop up stalls to buy traditional food from some locals.
Afterwards we get to see the whole reasoning of our father's move to Samoa and we visit our family land in Fasito'otai where he and some village friends have started clearing out the acres of land. Here they have started chopping down trees, overgrown plants & weeds etc to make way for Taro crops & better access to the land. It was a privilege to see the rainforest like area and also be told about the old German occupants who once resided there. This area has been passed down from relatives and for now our father will be working on it in hopes we or our extended family can make use of it or want to contribute to the maintenance of the land which is no easy task. If you would like to see more content of the works on the plantation & the clearing of the land our father has started documenting his journey on YouTube. Here's his channel: @tablefortwo120
After exploring this piece of land we then head to the ocean front to check out another part of the village where our family has some land. It was a bit windy, wet & flooded so we didn't stay long.
The kids started to get a bit restless so we head back to our resort Taumeasina and take the kids for a well deserved swim with some of their cousins.
To finish off the episode we go to a cultural buffet & dance night at one of the islands best Fiafia nights, the Le Manumea Hotel where we enjoyed traditional food and entertainment.
