In our latest episode, join Kyle and I as we explore an entirely new landscape to both of us: the desert. And not just any desert landscape, but one that is still owned and managed by the same people who have lived within its canyons and oases for over 5,000 years: The Agua Caliente Band of the Cahuilla Indians.
Did you know that Indigenous people preserve over 80% of the world’s biodiversity, despite representing only 5% of the human population? We saw this first hand exploring the Indian Canyons –the beautiful desert canyons adjacent to Palm Springs managed by the Agua Caliente Band of the Cahuilla Indians. Endangered Peninsular Bighorn sheep, native California Fan Palm oasis, coyote and grey fox, ringtail cats, a plethora of cacti, cottonwood; the list goes on and on for all the unique species that call this unique landscape home.
We received special permission from the Agua Caliente Band of the Cahuilla Indians’ Tribal Council to film and produce this episode. We want to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Tribal Council for this permission.
WHERE THE WILD ROAM seeks to educate and inform audiences about wildlife and wild places in a new way –with an adventurous, heartfelt, and hosted show that’s free to stream across social media.
Whether you like to hike, camp, flyfish, paddle, hunt, raft or kayak whitewater, mountain bike, backpack, bird watch, or simply enjoy the outdoors, we can all agree that we need to protect wild places and wildlife.
Throughout our first season, we will be highlighting wildlife and wild places including: Grasslands, wolves, Wild and Scenic rivers, the Sierra Nevada, palm deserts, Owyhee Canyonlands, and redwood forests.
