Oyster Dome ~ Lily Lake Loop (Day Hiking Washington)

Video Not Working? Fix It Now

✝️ _“Be still, and know that I am God!”_ Psalm 46 verse 10, New Living Translation We've been hiking this trail for 25 years and observed numerous changes over the years. After the first couple trips on a dreadful trail I said "I'm never hiking that trail again!" Fortunately, over the years, trail crews have greatly improved the trail and signage and I've hiked it many times since I said "never again." (Never say never!) Switchbacks, better tread, and bridges have been added, and many signs so you won't get lost. And even a few trail map signs along the way. This is a classic Pacific Northwest hike perfect for winter and the off season. It rarely gets snow and the views are always mesmerizing, even with clouds. The forest is peaceful and serene, filled with bird songs and squirrels. It's the perfect place to pause and ponder the wonders of God's creation. We began at Samish Overlook and headed directly to the Oyster Dome. After enjoying the views of the San Juan Islands and the Olympic Mountains peaking through the clouds beyond Anacortes, we headed over to Lily Lake for lunch. We then headed back to Samish Overlook using Max's Shortcut to create a loop. About a half mile down Max's Shortcut is a new trail called the "Acorn Trail." We followed the Acorn Trail for about 1.25 miles to where it intersects with the Larry Reed Trail. Much of the Acorn Trail is a road walk. The Larry Reed Trail then brought us back to Samish Overlook.
