The wheel of the year turns
lifting the lid of winter
through the widening crack
a warming draught of air
heavy with the scent of promise
stirs motes of clinging memories
making them dance
in the searching beams of light
and the feather duster of hope
sends fear and anger and sorrow
scuttling for cover
