Palgad fort is a hill fort located in Khed taluka of Ratnagiri District. The Fort is 18 kms from Khed city. To reach here one has to drive to Gherapalgad village which 15Kms from Khed on the Khed Mandangad road (State Highway 104). It is approx 1300 mtrs above sea level and a 20 mins of easy trek from base village Killemachi takes us on the top of the fort. This fort played an important role in making the kokan belt strong. It may have been built by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the 17th century when he built the Maratha and wanted to secure the coastline with the help of these important forts.
