Here are the two lenses I use with the GH5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-ePSrxaYZk
In October 2017 my G85 died, so I decided to make the next step and got the Panasonic Lumix GH5.
I travel full time and so my first trip with this camera was a two-month trip to the beautiful island of Tenerife in Spain. On this trip, I was able to test the GH5 how it performs on my travels. So I decided to do this GH5 travel review.

What I like about the GH5:
- Small, easy to carry:
The micro 4/3 sensor makes the GH5 a great video camera for traveling as the camera and its lenses don’t take so much space in your bag. Of course, there are smaller cameras but they can't mess with the GH5 in any way.
- 4K60:
I publish all of my videos in 4K. That made it hard for me before to work with slow motion. With its 4K60p feature, the GH5 solved this problem for me, what made my videos a lot better.
- Inbuild stabilization:
Another great feature that I already know from the G85 is the dual image stabilization. It stabilizes the footage in the lens and at the sensor, which lets the videos come close to filming with a gimbal. But to get perfect results I would still recommend using the Zhiyun Crane.
- 6K Timelapse:
What I really love about the GH5 is the time lapse feature. It records time-lapses in 6K. So I have a lot of flexibility in post-production with creating zoom effects or adjust the frame of the time-lapse.
- 4K Live Crop:
A bit similar is the 4K live crop feature. It basically takes a frame of 4K resolution inside the bigger sensor and moves it from point to point when you film. That’s great if you want to bring movement in your shots even if you’re not able to move the camera or want the movement as smooth as possible.
- Manual Autofocus
A big problem of both the GH5 and the G85 is the autofocus. The focus itself is fast enough. But when set to auto, it happens a lot that it hunts for an object. So Panasonic integrated a feature called manual autofocus which lets you automatically focus on manual mode. This way you can focus very fast but it doesn’t start to refocus automatically.
- LOG Profile
Another big advantage over the G85 is the possibility to use the LOG profile. Sadly you have to pay extra for that. But it’s definitely worth it as it makes it much easier for you to increase the dynamic range.
The GH5 offers a lot of other features, especially when it comes to 10bit recording at 400mbit/s. But as 60p is more important for me and my SD Card is not fast enough I decided to stay at 8bit with 150 Mbit/s. The 10-bit format only makes sense in my opinion when you record in 400mbit/s as otherwise, your bitrate is just too low to capture all the additional details.
Altogether I like the GH5 pretty much and it will be my main camera for the next 1-2 years.
