Pandhari Wari (Ashadhi Wari) is an integral part of the rich culture of Maharashtra. This Wari of Pandharpur is a strong base of Warkari sect.
Lakhs of people walk through hundreds of dindys and come to Pandhari for the Ashadhi Yatra. This tradition of walking is thousands of years old. The palanquin of Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram leaves from Pune to Pandharpur, but this tradition of Vari was continued even before Dnyaneshwar Maharaj. His father Vitthalpant was a Warkari of Pandhari. They took Dnyadeva and other children to Pandhari.
This yatra is completed on Shuddha Ekadashi in the month of Ashadha. This Ekadashi is also called Devshayani Ekadashi.
Sant Dnyaneshwar's palanquin starts from Alandi and reaches Pandharpur by traveling through Pune - Saswad - Jejuri - Lonand - Targaon - Phaltan - Natepute - Malshiras - Ghampur - Shegaon - Wakhri.
Saint Tukaram's palanquin departs from Dehu and reaches Pandharpur by traveling Akurdi - Lonikalbhor - Yawat - Varwand - Baramati - Indapur - Akluj - Wakhri.
Lakhs of devotees participate in this procession on foot and walk for 21 days to meet Vitthal in Pandharpur.
