Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Education, recently reflected on the history of Singapore’s education system at a lecture jointly organised by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Singapore, the National Institute of Education (NIE) and National University of Singapore (NUS)’s Institute of Policy Studies, in commemoration of SG60, MOE70 and NIE75.
In his speech, Minister delved into the key milestones of our education system in three phases and discussed opportunities and potential pitfalls in education that we may encounter in the future. He also participated in a panel discussion with NIE Director, Professor Liu Woon Chia and NUS’ Associate Professor Elmie Nekmat, moderated by Singapore University of Social Sciences’ President, Professor Tan Tai Yong. During the discussion, they touched on topics such as fostering growth in an era of disruptive technologies as well as fostering unity and inclusivity in an ever-changing and fragmenting world.
