The harsh servitude and bondage of the Children of Israel begins in this week’s Torah portion, and Pharaoh’s decree of withholding straw from the people ‘is the last straw’… and places the Israelites in an untenable, torturous predicament. Their rescuers were none other than the ‘officers’ of the Children of Israel who protected their people with selflessness and compassion, teaching us an eternal lesson: we can all shine a light that illuminates a path to Redemption from the midst of the darkness of exile.
The Torah portion of Shemot (Exodus 1 : 1 - 6 : 1) is read on Shabbat, Tevet 21, 5783 - January 14, 2023
