This is the 1st part of a 2 months Expedition in Central Asia. My friends Bob from Australia, Nanet from the Netherlands and myself spent one month in Tajikistan and hiked 2 weeks in Tajik National Park. We began in Varshev and finished in Bulunkul.
After Tajikistan we crossed the border into Kyrgyzstan. Part 2 and 3 of this series is filmed there. Please subscribe in order to see the rest of our documentary.

For more questions about this journey, don't hesitate to contact me via the website, miriamlancewood.com. I'll answer all your questions regarding the country, culture, GBAO permits, route, transport, gear lists etc.
Documentation Pamirs:
I'll soon upload a separate video on the required permits for people who'd like to go to the apamir mountains. But if you'd like to go there, you'll need a lot of (expensive) documents. You can get 1 month tourist visa on arrival. But don't forget to register yourself in Dushanbe. In the same office you can also buy your GBAO permit (Pamir permit). If you obtained a 2 months E-visa beforehand, you don't need to register yourself, and in the same application you can get your the pamir permit.
If you'd like to go to Tajik National Park, you'll need to pay 10 USD a day. You can get this permit in Ovir Office in Khorugh, or just at the start in Barchov, where the ranger will find you quick enough.
If you want to cross the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, you'll need to put yourself on the list. A "travel agent" in Murghab will do this for you. Guesthouse "Erali" in Murghab (Ул. Сомони 3/1, Murghab, Tajikistan) will organise your permit and transport for you.

Miriam Lancewood lived with her husband Peter for seven years in the wilderness of New Zealand. They left civilisation in 2010 and walked into the mountains with not much more than a backpack. They lived without technology, not even a clock. They roamed around like nomads, slept in a tent, cooked on a fire and Miriam learned to hunt with bow and arrow. Like our ancestors, they lived from hunting and gathering. Their observations and experiences are unique in this technological world.
Since Miriam met Peter in 2006, they have been nomadic and lived and traveled in many different countries. At present they are living in an off-grid shepherds cottage in the Rodopi mountains in Bulgaria.
Miriam's memoir 'Woman in the Wilderness', became an international Bestseller, translated into 5 languages. Dutch, German, French, Portuguese, and Chinese.
In 2020 the sequel 'Wild at heart' came out and won an important prize in New Zealand.
And in 2023 she co-edited a new publication called 'Wilder Journeys'.
