Also to show how “professional” motion designers are far from infallible. If we’re trying something new we have to research, experiment and often get things wrong. Sometimes it can lead to interesting, unexpected results. Sometimes it can lead to ulcers.

This was an animation I did for a motion collaboration.
I was assigned an advertisement designed by Paul Rand. The brief was to create an animation, 4x5 format.
This animation was completed over a week, here and there, totalling 30 hours work.
I shot reference footage of myself for the hands, then rotoscoped it out and added stock footage of a bird. I brought that rough footage into Photoshop and traced the line animation.
There was a LOT of back and forth getting the timing right, and the transition from the bird’s wings into the flames of the final design. And I redid the tracing of the bird a couple of time with different brush styles. I finally decided it would look better with the clean line look of the artwork.
