Episode 26, Season 40 of Texas Parks & Wildlife, a weekly PBS series about the great outdoors. The Austin Bat Refuge is giving orphaned and injured bats a second chance by rehabilitating them in a safe environment until they’re ready to be released back into the wild. Meet Virginia Rose, a birder who started a national movement to introduce people to the joys of birding. Wildlife experts race to restore bighorn sheep to West Texas, capturing them by helicopter and releasing them in the Franklin Mountains. Austin Bat Refuge - 1:20 Austin Texas is home to the largest urban bat colony in the world with one and a half million Mexican free-tailed bats living under the South Congress Avenue bridge. It’s also home to the Austin Bat Refuge where orphaned and injured bats are rehabilitated in a safe environment until they’re ready to be released back into the wild.
