Join me on my 2020 northbound thruhike of the Penning Way! The Pennine Way is a 268 mile hiking route stretching from Edale to Kirk Yetholme. It is 1 of the 15 England and Wales National Trails.
I hiked the trail in 9 Days 4 Hours with a base weight of around 3.5kg, wild camping 5 nights, staying in camp sites 2 nights, a hostel for 1 night, and a mountain hut for 1 night.
This was my third National Trail, having previously hiked the Peddars Way & Norfolk Coast Path and Cotswold Way. I found the Pennine Way to be full of surprises, and very, very wet! Having never travelled to this part of the country before and not researching it prior to heading out I was pleasantly surprised by the views the trail had to offer. It is probably the most remote I have felt so far in England, which is hard to come across. Oh and a word of advice, bring rain gear and a warm synthetic layer - I ended up in full rain gear & wrapped in my tarp at one point the rain was so bad.
