Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said during his first trip to NATO Wednesday that membership for Ukraine was "unrealistic" suggesting the country should abandon hopes of a return to its pre-2014 borders.
“The United States does not believe that NATO membership for Ukraine is a realistic outcome of a negotiated settlement,” Hegseth said adding that European troops should be the primary force securing a post-war Ukraine.
"To be clear, as part of any security guarantee, there will not be US troops deployed to Ukraine," he said before meeting with the Ukraine Defense Contract Group (UDCG).
