Deanne Bednar of the Strawbale Studio in Oxford, MI shows how to harvest Phragmites as reed for a thatched roof system. Thatched roof is a technique of roof building that has been used all over the world for thousands of years. Phragmites are an invasive plant in Michigan and have been used to build the roofing system for multiple structures at the Strawbale Studio. This video is a part of an upcoming series on basic thatching being done at Strawbale Studio on outbuildings on Agricultural Land.
