Please read and agree to the disclaimer before watching this video. . Nitric oxide is a potent vasodilator in the cardiovascular system having the role of regulation of blood pressure and vascular tone. Dr. Mobeen Syed, in this video, explains the mechanism of action of nitric oxide and the factors that trigger its release. Nitric oxide is released from the endothelium of the blood vessels by multiple factors, for example, increased blood flow, vasoactive amines, histamine, prostacyclins, etc Nitric oxide triggers soluble guanylate cyclase, and increased cGMP causes the increased activity of myosin light chain-phosphatase. This enzyme causes the relaxation of blood vessels. In atherosclerosis, there is a reduction in the release of nitric oxide from the endothelium of the blood vessels. It causes reduced cGMP and reduced myosin light chain-phosphatase activity. Blood vessel contraction occurs by the action of myosin light chain kinase. The following topics have discussed in the full video: * Mechanism of action of Nitric oxide * Multiple causes of nitric oxide release * Vasodilation effect of nitric oxide * Role of nitric oxide in atherosclerosis * Role of angiotensin II in nitric oxide release * Role of sildenafil in nitric oxide release ...
