Video Not Working? Fix It Now

This video is an in-depth tutorial of the Second Movement (Adagio) of Beethoven's Sonata Pathétique. It will walk you through in detail with ideas for practicing and interpretation.

It is an exceptionally well known piece of music and whilst certainly not easy to play, is within the grasp of we amateur pianists.

The Free Practice Notes referred to in the video can be downloaded here:

I have used my Four Step Method of Discover, Divide, Conquer and Integrate for this tutorial (you can read more about the process here: https://tommyspianocorner.com/four-step-piano-process-great-for-returners/). I have put Chapter Markers just below for each Section so that you can move easily between them if you wish to come back as you are learning this.

00:00 Piano Tutorial | Adagio | Beethoven Sonata Pathétique (2nd Movement)
02:50 Section 1 - Opening Theme including using the Cortot Method
08:24 Section 2 - Singing Melody over Chords
11:50 Section 3 - Reprise of Theme
12:03 Section 4 - A Flat Minor with Triplets
13:53 Section 5 - Main Theme with Triplets
14:57 Section 6 - Ending

Within the video, I reference my tutorial on the main theme of Chopin's Etude No. 3 in E Op. 10 (known as Tristesse). This is because the musical design of the main theme is extremely similar and we can use the same techniques to practice it - which originated from Alfred Cortot. I'd recommend you think of learning this theme at the same time as this Adagio. You can find the video here : https://youtu.be/kzwIlf5l2eY
