Those of you that watched railroad videos in the days before Youtube, may remember the producer Highball Productions and their excellent "Hot Spots" series. I've long loved those videos, and by popular request... have decided to take a swing at my own Hot Spots series. And of course, how could I NOT start the series with a location that's made regular appearances in other videos?
Pine Junction, in Gary Indiana, is easily one of the busiest train watching locations in the entire country - owing to three separate Class I arteries crossing this 500' stretch of road - in under 10 hours we saw well over 60 trains. Mainline action from the CSX and Norfolk Southern make regular appearances, as well as lots of yard action on the Canadian National side. Amtrak, South Shore Freight, and the Indiana Harbor Belt also make appearances, and the action is virtually nonstop.
Enjoy the video, and thanks for watching!
