The best tulip bulb fertilizer is subjective, but I decided to go with the best organic fertilizer for tulips I could buy near me, which happened to be the Espoma Bulb Tone Fertilizer. I decided to use a Bulb Auger to plant the bulbs, but you could easily use a shovel. How deep should I plant tulip bulbs? It depends on the variety, but It is the general consensus according to SavvyGardening.com that tulips which are not "targeted by squirrels, can be planted more shallowly, generally about 4 (10 cm) to 5 (12.5 cm) inches deep, while mid-sized species, like Tulipa greigii, are planted 6 (15 cm) to 8 inches (20 cm) deep"
